College Football Week 6 Preview: Georgia vs. Alabama and More

The Alabama Crimson Tide host the Georgia Bulldogs in the closest-priced of the seven games featured here. As of October 8 at 2:30 PM ET, the market’s implied probability favors Alabama at 52%, with Georgia at 48%. Both teams are 5-0. The featured games on Saturday, October 10 start well before that, at 12:00 PM ET with Texas A&M at Missouri, and run through Alabama’s 7:30 PM ET kickoff.

Rankings are as of October 4.

No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs at No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama is the market's implied favorite at 52%, with Georgia at 48%. In our read, a four-point gap in implied probability between two unbeaten teams is a toss-up.

Why it matters

Georgia and Alabama are both 5-0, so Saturday, October 10 ends one of the two perfect records. Georgia beat Vanderbilt 38-14 on October 3, while Alabama won 56-23 at Mississippi State the same day. Kickoff is 7:30 PM ET at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

The numbers

Georgia has allowed 287 rushing yards across five games (57.4 per game), the lowest figure of any team in the six featured matchups. Alabama has allowed 393 (78.6) per game.

Through the air, Alabama has also allowed more: 1,170 passing yards this season to Georgia's 936. On offense the two are hard to separate, as Georgia scores 51.4 points per game, Alabama 49.6, and Georgia converts 54.9% on third down against Alabama's 49.1%.

What the market says

Among the seven games featured here, the 52/48 split is the only price inside ten points; the next-closest, Texas A&M at Missouri, sits 21 points apart. In our read, with 51.4 and 49.6 points per game on either side and third-down rates within six points, the market is pricing two profiles the season data does not separate. See markets for Georgia at Alabama.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. No. 1 Texas Longhorns

Texas is the market's implied favorite at 76%, with Oklahoma at 26%. In our read, a 50-point gap in implied probability makes Texas a clear favorite.

Why it matters

Texas and Oklahoma meet in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, kicking off at 3:30 PM ET on Saturday, October 10. Texas is 4-0, having won 20-17 at Tennessee on September 26. Oklahoma is 2-2, with a 10-17 loss at Michigan on September 12 and a 13-41 loss at Georgia on September 26.

The numbers

Texas has conceded 13.3 points per game this season, the lowest figure in the six featured games. Oklahoma has conceded 16.0, which is third-lowest. Therefore, the market is not pricing a defensive mismatch.

The separation is on the other side of the ball. Texas scores 33.3 points per game to Oklahoma's 22.0, and Oklahoma converts 34.0% on third down, a rate only Kentucky sits below among the twelve teams in the featured games.

What the market says

In our read, 76% is a wide price for a game between a 4-0 team and a 2-2 team whose defensive numbers are close. The 11-point-per-game scoring gap and Oklahoma's 34.0% third-down rate are what the pricing leans on, not the points allowed. See markets for Texas vs. Oklahoma.

New to event contracts

A price is the market's implied probability of an outcome, from 0 to 100 cents. A contract priced at 52 cents implies about a 52% chance. If the outcome happens, the contract pays $1. If it does not, the contract pays nothing and you lose the 52 cents you paid.

No. 10 LSU Tigers at Kentucky Wildcats

LSU is the market's implied favorite at 75%, with Kentucky at 26%. In our read, that is a clear favorite. Both teams are 4-1: LSU beat McNeese State 63-14 on October 3, and Kentucky won 35-34 at South Carolina the same day.

The yardage split is the widest in the six featured games. LSU has allowed 1,103 total yards in five games (220.6 per game) and the fewest of the twelve teams in those games. Kentucky has allowed 1,883 (376.6 per game). Kickoff is 7:00 PM ET at Kroger Field in Lexington. See markets for LSU at Kentucky.

No. 21 UCLA Bruins at No. 13 Oregon Ducks

Oregon is the market's implied favorite at 79%, with UCLA at 22%. In our read, that is a clear favorite, and it gives UCLA the lowest implied probability of the four unbeaten teams featured this week. The Bruins are 4-0, alongside Texas at 4-0 and Georgia and Alabama at 5-0.

UCLA has rushed for 1,126 yards in four games (281.5 per game) and the most of any team in the six featured matchups; Oregon has rushed for 636 (159.0 per game). Oregon's one loss came 31-39 at Oklahoma State on September 12. Kickoff is 3:30 PM ET at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. See markets for UCLA at Oregon.

South Carolina Gamecocks at No. 16 Florida Gators

Florida is the market's implied favorite at 81%, with South Carolina at 20%. In our read, that is a lopsided price. Both teams lost on October 3, Florida 17-45 at Missouri and South Carolina 34-35 at home to Kentucky. Florida is 4-1 and South Carolina 2-3.

Florida scores 46.2 points per game to South Carolina's 37.6, and the two concede almost the same amount: 27.2 and 26.8. Kickoff is 12:45 PM ET at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. See markets for South Carolina at Florida.

No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers at Arkansas Razorbacks

Tennessee is the market’s implied favorite at 83%, with Arkansas at 18%. This is the widest gap of the seven games featured here. In our read, that is a lopsided price, and the clearest number behind it is scoring allowed: Arkansas has conceded 28.4 points per game this season, the most of any team in the six featured games, against Tennessee's 15.2.

Arkansas is 2-3 and lost 7-34 at Texas A&M on October 3. Tennessee is 4-1, its only loss a 17-20 home defeat to Texas on September 26. Kickoff is 4:15 PM ET at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville. See markets for Tennessee at Arkansas.

Also on the board: Texas A&M Aggies at No. 14 Missouri Tigers

Missouri is the market's implied favorite at 61%, with Texas A&M at 40%. In our read, that is a modest favorite, and the second-closest price among the seven games featured here, after Georgia at Alabama.

Both teams are coming off lopsided SEC wins on October 3: Missouri beat Florida 45-17, and Texas A&M beat Arkansas 34-7. Missouri is 4-1 and Texas A&M is 3-2. Kickoff is 12:00 PM ET at Faurot Field in Columbia, the earliest of the seven featured games. See markets for Texas A&M at Missouri.
